Stand Your Ground Legislation Passes the House

The “Stand Your Ground” or “Castle Doctrine” package of bills (HB 5142, 5143, 5153, and 5548) were debated on the Floor of the House of Representatives of the State of Michigan. One amendment was offered and rejected on HB 5153. This amendment was offered by State Representative Alexander Lipsey, District 69 – Kalamazoo. Effectively this would have killed HB 5153 and would have left the county prosecutors of Michigan complete discretion in prosecuting anyone acting in self-defense. In Calhoun County

CHANGES TO THE MICHIGAN CONCEALED CARRY LAW AND WHAT THEY MEAN TO YOU

First, HB 4642, was signed by our Governor and became Pubic Act 75 of 2006. This law exempts a CPL holder from the safety inspection process when borrowing a handgun that has been properly inspected in the State of Michigan. This law becomes effective on July 1, 2006.
